DON’T TOUCH ME!

"DON'T TOUCH ME!" is a game for children, which is inspired by the classic game "Twister." Our game is designed to teach children about their body boundaries, learn how to respect the physical space of others, and conduct such education through playing the game.

Context

In Taiwan, 203 preschool kids were sexually harassed in 2022, and 90% of them were violated by their family members or friends.

What happened?

Why do so many preschool kids get sexual harassed by people they familiar?

To find out the root cause of this situation, we scaled our question up to the preschool sex education system in Taiwan.

This system includes three characters : children, kindergarten, and family.

We chose families as our research field because not every child goes to kindergarten.

Literature

According to the studies below, we assume 5 hypothesis:

1. Parents don’t think they have enough knowledge to teach children about preschool sex education.
2. Parents suffer some difficulties when they try to filter the materials to teach children.

-Parents don’t have enough time for this.

-Parents don’t know how to find the correct materials.
3. Parents don’t know when is the good timing to mention sex education.
4. Parents don’t know what words are more understandable for children.
5. Parents don’t know if their children complete understand it or not.

Survey

We distributed 110 questionnaires to preschool parents and took back 56 questionnaires which were effective.

Our goal :
    1. Understanding the current status of family sex education
    2. Screening interviewees

Questionnaires result

Sex education conduct method
Conduct timing and difficulties
Reasons for not conducted sex education

Qualitative interviews

We chose 3 of the parents to do interviews, who encountered difficulties while executing sex education.

Analyze

Point of View, Insight, How Might We

INSIGHT 1

The level of sex education knowledge children learned is determined by the children themselves.

NEED (children)

A scenario that inspires children to ask questions.

INSIGHT 2

Education materials provide scenarios “that have not yet occurred,” allowing for preventive discussions, shared questions between parents and children, and early learning.

INSIGHT 3

Actively learning about children's sex education poses too many obstacles for parents.

NEED (parents)

An easy way to teach children about preventing scenarios that may be dangerous.

HOW MIGHT WE...? 🤔

- Turning body exploration into a game that provides a medium for children to ask questions.

- Create a scenario that can teach children without spending preparation time.

Tired?
Let's take a five-minute break ☕️

Afterwards, we'll continue with the design.

Considering the two needs mentioned above, we propose two possible solutions.

Design 1

AR stickers that allow children to stick them at home to learn body boundaries and know body parts.

The characters would tell them about what body parts they don’t like to be touched. When children scan stickers through a tablet or phone, the screen displays visual effects that children can interact with by scratching off. When children attempt to scratch off private areas, an animation appears that discourages them from doing so.

Design 2

A physical contact game that children can learn to respect other’s body boundaries.

We chose this solution because, compared to the other option, it can more directly demonstrate the concept of body boundaries.

The game package contain...

1. Game mat

2. Red cloth
Wrapping the red fabric with Velcro around specific body parts means that others should not touch those areas. For example, the chest, groin, and other areas children may not like to be touched.

3. Instruction manual
The instruction manual explains the game procedure, including wrapping the body parts that others should not touch. Apart from this, it provides additional information about children's bodily autonomy and self-protection.

4. Mission cards
In each round, draw a mission card that instructs you to place your hand or foot on a colored area.
